We like to see stability
My short answer is… It is! Take it from me, a business owner, when making large decisions to purchase new equipment, hire people, or expand operations, we like to see stability. We especially like to see a stable or expanding economy and a stable government. Now you might say I can see a stable or expanding economy but what’s the importance of a stable government.
“With a Conservative majority we will have 4 years of steady or declining tax rates”
These promises are not gifts
We, as a company, held back on certain purchasing decisions until after this election. Now we are proceeding. Why? We now know with a Conservative majority we will have 4 years of steady or declining tax rates. We can therefore feel relatively secure that our expenses are not going to increase suddenly due to unforeseen tax hikes.
Tax increases would have been inevitable in order to pay for some of the extravagant spending that the Liberals and NDP were promising. Usually voters don’t pick up on the fact that politicians are making promises and buying votes with the voters own hard earned tax dollars not the politicians’ money. These promises are not gifts.
“4 elections at an approximate total cost of 1.2 Billion dollars in only 7 years”
The Canadian taxpayers had clearly had enough
This election, the Canadian voters clearly got it right. We have had 4 elections at an approximate total cost of 1.2 Billion dollars in only 7 years. The Canadian taxpayers had clearly had enough. Especially had enough, given the major Liberal issue being Parliamentary procedure rather than that of the economy.
Of course, the Conservatives could not be attacked on the economy as Canada came through the recession relatively unscathed compared to the U.S. and the rest of the global economy. I also believe this was primarily due to our stringent banking regulations.
In case you think this is just the ramblings of a true blue Conservative I am also glad the NDP achieved opposition status. Why? Because I also believe in balance and feel the country needs a social conscience which hopefully the NDP will provide in a positive manner.
The last thing this country needs is more of the same negativity produced by our parliament during the past seven years. Hopefully this group of politicians will be different and provide the real LEADERSHIP the best country in the world deserves.
